RUNNING FOR A GOOD DEED
The Hua Mei Race Day raised a total of $170,000 in support of frail and homebound elders of Hua Mei Mobile Clinic (HMMC) at the Singapore Racecourse today. The event was generously supported by about 170 guests who contributed through luncheon table sponsorships, an in-house raffle draw and other donations.
“This is the sixth year that Singapore Turf Club is collaborating with Tsao Foundation. We are pleased to continue providing Hua Mei Mobile Clinic with a platform for raising funds to support the provision of care to homebound and frail elders and would like to congratulate them on the success of their fund-raising event,” said Mr Yu Pang Fey, President and Chief Executive, Singapore Turf Club.
Ms Tan Peck Sim, Deputy CEO, Tsao Foundation, said, “Hua Mei Mobile Clinic was the first community aged care programme that we set up when Tsao Foundation was established in 1993. It was a ground breaking model, intent on delivering holistic, medical and social care to homebound and frail elders at their homes that they may live at optimal wellness amid family and community. An important part of the service is to ensure that family caregivers are given adequate guidance and training for their tasks and self-care. Ours is still the only service model of its kind in Singapore though in recent years, the potential of homecare and the wellbeing of caregivers have drawn greater attention. To make it affordable for elders with tight financial and social resources, Hua Mei Mobile Clinic continues to require the strong support of the community. We are thankful to the Singapore Turf Club for their generous partnership since 2008, and to all the business enterprises and individuals who have made the Hua Mei Race Day a success.”
The Hua Mei Race Day ended with PIONEER SEVEN scoring a victory in the second running of the $75,000 Hua Mei for Elders Cup, a Class 3 race over 1,200m on the Polytrack.

HMMC offers primary healthcare for homebound disabled or frail older persons at their homes, to enable them to live at optimal health and remain in the community for as long as possible. HMMC is one of six services under the Hua Mei Centre for Successful Ageing, a Tsao Foundation initiative.
